Manufacturing Ambassadors participate in the first annual Edward P. Campbell "Design Squad" Challenge

Cleveland—On March 13, 2010, engineers from Babcock and Wilcox, Design Molded Plastics, Plastipak Packaging and Talan Products traveled to the studios of WVIZ Ideastream to serve as judges for the first annual Edward P. Campbell Design Squad Challenge where 12 teams of 50 middle school students from the area competed in three engineering contests.

The challenge program is a school-based component of Design Squad, the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning TV competition series for middle school students broadcast by WVIZ/PBS ideastream. Design Squad is one of the few places on TV where students can learn about engineering and see how exciting it can be to investigate and solve challenging real world problems.

Participation in this event is one step schools can take in response to the urgent need to employ new motivational approaches with today’s middle school students to get them excited about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers utilizing important 21st Century Skills. Visit the WVIZ Ideastream web site for more information and video about the event.

MAGNET thanks our volunteer judges for their commitment and support of Northeast Ohio’s future generation. Find out how you can become a Manufacturing Ambassador.
