Ballot Initiative Puts Manufacturing at Risk in Ohio

CLEVELAND—July 21 , 2008—The Board of Directors of MAGNET, the Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network, unanimously voted last Friday, July 18, to oppose an initiated ballot measure mandating paid sick leave in the state of Ohio.  The measure is being actively promoted by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is deceptively named the “Healthy Families” Act.

David Fouts“We estimate that this measure, if approved by the voters in November, will cost manufacturers between 6% and 15% in additional costs.  This will certainly result in job loss and be a significant barrier to job creation or even maintenance in Northeast Ohio," said MAGNET President David Fouts.  (More...)
