Detroit—General Motors Corp. has suspended plans to build a small, seven-seat crossover wagon for its Chevrolet brand in North America and instead plans to bring another small car to the U.S. from Asia.

Cleveland—Eaton Corp. told employees Wednesday that the Chagrin Highlands corporate park is the leading choice for the company's new headquarters. The news followed months of speculation about wrangling between the city, the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority and Eaton over the price of lakefront land, changes in city tax policies and incentives to keep the company here, among other issues.

Detroit—General Motors Corp. Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner unveiled the automaker's long-awaited electric car Tuesday and said the turmoil in U.S. financial markets should not affect government loan guarantees that would help the auto industry develop high-tech cars.

New York—As Wall Street quaked Monday, small and midsize businesses prepared to feel the aftershocks in the form of tighter credit and tougher borrowing standards.


NTMA and PMA merge federal government advocacy programs, Precision Metalforming Association, September 16, 2008
Cleveland—The Precision Metalforming Association and the National Tooling and Machining Association announced today that they are combining their federal government advocacy programs to promote U.S. government policies that will ensure a strong manufacturing sector in the United States. Together, industries represented by PMA and NTMA employ nearly 1 million and have combined sales in excess of $130 billion.

Tallmadge, Ohio—Waltco Hydraulic Liftgates recently decided to close a smaller manufacturing operation in Gardena, Calif., south of Los Angeles, and consolidate those operations into its headquarters and factory complex off Northeast Avenue.

Akron—The Beacon Journal reviews the progress Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and Industrial Realty Group have made in developing Goodyear's new global headquarters in East Akron. The various private and public entities involved are expected to close deals later this year on the $900 million complex, which will be called Akron Riverwalk.

North Ridgeville company moves work from Mexico, creating 20 jobs, by Teresa Dixon Murray, Cleveland Plain Dealer, September 12, 2008
North Ridgeville, Ohio—Beckett Gas Inc. plans to hire about 20 workers to replace 30 people in Monterrey, Mexico who worked for a division that Beckett just bought from an Italian company. The new division manufactures burners that burn gas in a different way that can be environmentally friendly.


Delphi warned to stop losses or shut plants, by Don Shilling, Youngstown Vindicator, September 12, 2008
New York—Two major creditors say Delphi Corp. should shut down its North American operations if it can’t stop losing money. In other news, the Associated Press said Delphi has until today to transfer its pension plans for hourly workers to its former parent, General Motors Corp.
